Best Treats for Cats and Kittens

Cats are obligate carnivores — the right treats are simple, meaty, and small.

By The EveryPetHaven Kitchen team · August 4, 2026

Cats are picky for a reason: they're obligate carnivores, built to eat meat. The best cat treats lean into that — simple, protein-first, and small.

Protein-first, single-ingredient. Cats thrive on animal protein, so single-ingredient treats like dehydrated chicken hearts (naturally rich in taurine), wild salmon, or whitefish are both appealing and clean. Skip fillers and artificial extras.

Tiny portions. Cats are small, so treats add up fast — keep them to a small fraction of daily calories, and break pieces down for little mouths.

Kittens: gentle and soft. Once a kitten is eating solid food, small, soft, single-ingredient treats work for bonding and gentle training — but the bulk of their nutrition should come from a complete kitten food. Check with your vet on timing.

Watch for toxic foods. Cats are especially sensitive to onion, garlic, and other everyday foods — see our can-my-pet-eat guide: everypethaven.com/blog/can-my-pet-eat/.

That's exactly why our cat treats are single-ingredient — taurine-rich chicken hearts, wild salmon, whitefish flakes.

That's what we make at EveryPetHaven Kitchen: fresh, gently-dehydrated, single-ingredient treats — cut and sized for the pet, net weight on every bag. Launching on Kickstarter; join the list at everypethaven.com/kickstarter.

General guidance only — ask your vet about your pet's specific needs.
