What people mean by a 'trend' on pet TikTok and Reels — the formats, challenges and sounds that spread, and the lifecycle every trend moves through. No hype, just definitions.
- Trend
- A format, sound or challenge many creators adopt at once. Joining early — before saturation — is a common way pet accounts catch a wave of reach.
- Format
- A repeatable structure you can pour any pet into: 'a day in the life of…', 'rating my dog's…', before/after. Formats outlast the specific sound attached to them.
- Challenge
- A prompt inviting others to make their own version ('show your pet's reaction to…'). Challenges spread because participating is the whole point.
- Meme
- A shared joke — visual, audio or textual — that viewers recognise instantly. Pet memes travel fastest when they're easy to remix.
- Transition trend
- A trend built around a specific edit (a hand-cover swipe, a beat-drop cut). The grooming glow-up is a perennial transition format.
- Trend cycle
- The arc every trend follows: emerge → accelerate → peak → saturate → decline. Posting near the peak means fighting the most competition.
- Micro-trend
- A trend that flares and fades within days. High risk, high reward — you have to move fast and it may be dead by the weekend.
- Evergreen format
- A structure that works any month (tips, transformations, 'storytime'). The dependable base you return to between trends.
- Trend-jacking
- Attaching your niche to a broad trend that isn't about pets — translating the format so it fits dogs, cats or reptiles.
- Niche-down
- Taking a broad trend and making the pet-specific version ('POV trends, but it's a bearded dragon'). Less competition, more relevance.
- Remix
- Building on someone else's video via duet, stitch or a fresh take on their format — how a trend mutates as it spreads.
- Seasonal trend
- Formats tied to a time of year (Gotcha Day, holiday costumes, 'first snow' reactions). Predictable, so you can plan for them.
- Aesthetic
- A consistent visual mood (cottagecore pets, clean minimalist tanks) that itself becomes a trend people opt into.
- Saturation
- The point where so many creators use a format that viewers tire of it and reach drops — the cue to move on.
